Abstract: We show that a CO2 laser driven from below to above threshold by pump sweeping displays a linear dependence of the peak intensity on the switch-on time. This feature is a consequence of the small spread of the switch-on times. Experimental results for the slope of the linear relation are well reproduced by a calculation based on the rate equations.
