Abstract: We propose a novel experimental method for measuring the degree of temporal coherence of ultrashort pulses of harmonics generated by focusing intense laser pulses in a gas jet. The method is demonstrated in a simple configuration with the third harmonic generated in air from a 120-fs long infrared (800-nm) pulse, but the approach can be readily extended to the characterization of higher-order harmonics. We propose the use of a modified version of the experimental apparatus to perform high-resolution Ramsey-type coherent spectroscopy in the VUV and XUV.
