Abstract: An interferometric method to test plane parallel plates for parallelism is reported. The method consists of optically contacting the parallel to a master flat, and inspecting the assembly in reflection against a reference flat. Proper measuring procedures and data handling provide freedom from systematic errors invariant to rotation. Experimental results are presented.
