Abstract: In this paper the reflection and transmission coefficients for electromagnetic waves propagating in a random layered medium are determined through a proper expansion of the transfer matrix for the EM wave, which conserves the energy of the beam at each order of expansion. The calculation of the relevant stochastic integrals also allows the determination of the statistical properties of these coefficients.
