Abstract: We observe the dynamic behavior of the optogalvanic effect in a Co2 laser during the transient process due to the switching of the cavity losses. A three-level model for the laser and a differential relaxation equation based on thermodynamic considerations for the temperature are used to interpret the phenomenon.
