Local oscillations traveling waves and chaos in Rayleigh-Benard convection

Abstract: Spatial patterns in temporal chaotic regimes of Rayleigh-Bénard convection have been experimentallystudied with a measuring technique able to resolve in time the gradient of the temperature field. We findtwo different time-dependent regimes, one characterized by oscillations localized in space and the otherconsisting of traveling waves. The transition between these two regimes is also analyzed.
