Abstract: Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a greenhouse gas (GHG) characterized by a Global Warming Potential 298 times higher than CO2. It is therefore mandatory to measure the gas flows at the soil/air interface in order to evaluate the environmental impact of the emissions coming from agricultural productions. These measurements allow direct actions to be taken in order to reduce these emissions and to calibrate the DNDC calculation models (Denitrification-Decomposition), which are used to estimate N2O on a territorial scale. The objective of the project is to create a portable N2O sensor, with reduced weight and size, low cost, that is based on molecular spectroscopy techniques in the medium or near infrared, and capable of measuring the N2O concentration directly on field. Its sensitivity and resolution must be compatible with ground emission measurement systems based on the “accumulation chamber” technique.
