Abstract: We investigated electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a V-type system in cesium at room temperature: a strong coupling laser at 852 nm was locked on the D-2 transition while the transmission of a weak probe at 894 nm has been recorded as the frequency was scanned through the D-1 transition. The addition of an incoherent pump on the D-1 line has allowed for the observation of non-inverted gain. A systematic investigation of the effect for different hyperfine sublevels has been performed as a function of the relevant experimental parameters.
