Abstract: A program to extensively investigate the key parameters which may limit the scaling of XeCl lasers ( equals 308 nm) to very high average power (P//a greater than 1 kW) and pulse-repetition frequency ( greater than 1 kHz) has been undertaken. An advanced X-ray preionized discharge testbed, LUX, has been constructed for these studies and recently redesigned to increase the extracted laser power up to 300-400 W at 308 nm at 1-kHz prf. The different parts of the modified LUX laser testbed are described, and some experimental results are discussed.
