Abstract: The statistical description of polarization in an ensemble of randomly perturbed single-mode fibers is accomplished by use of the coherency matrix formalism. The evolution equations for the mean values of the Stokes parameters are found. This allows to show that random mode coupling leads to complete depolarization.
