Suppression of soliton interactions by phase modulation

Abstract: The Letter shows that the interactions of closely packed solitons in a long distance transmission system with bandwidth limited amplification may be suppressed by phase modulation. This removes the limitation to the maximum transmission distance that is set by the collision of adjacent solitons.
