Abstract: We We analyze the optimal generation efficiency of a phase conjugate wave by means of four-wave mixing in optical fibers. We use an exact model including linear absorption and pump depletion. We show that the nonlinear detuning of the phase matching condition may enhance the conversion efficiency if the pump is in the anomalous chromatic dispersion region and the input signal is much less intense than the pump.
