Abstract: We investigate the influence of nonlinear optical Faraday rotation on polarization multistability and modulational instabilities in nonlinear resonators. The potential use of gyrotropic cavities for implementing a light polarization-controlled set-reset flip-flop element and a high-repetition-rate pulse train generator is analysed.
