Abstract: Dispersion-managed solitons in periodically dispersion compensated fibre transmission systems allow for large duty cycle time-division multiplexed channels. Indeed, bit slots as short as 1.5-1.8 times the pulsewidth are permitted for 20 and 40 Gbit/s transmission in standard fibre-based, dispersion-compensated links.
